Alibaba launches Quark AI Glasses to rival Meta

Alibaba has launched its first AI-powered smart glasses called Quark AI Glasses. These glasses run on Alibaba’s own Qwen AI model and come with the Quark assistant. Alibaba revealed the product at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai (July 26–28) and plans to launch it in China by the end of 2025. Alibaba is entering the smart glasses market to compete with big names like Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses and Xiaomi’s smart eyewear. Quark AI Glasses offer:

  • Hands-free calling.
  • Music streaming.
  • Real-time language translation.
  • Auto transcription for meetings.

Quark AI Glasses: You can also use voice commands to:

  • Pay through Alipay.
  • Navigate using Amap.
  • Check product prices on Taobao.
  • Get travel updates from Flaggy.

All features are connected through Alibaba’s ecosystem. The glasses are lightweight and slim, with temples 40% thinner than usual.  They use two powerful chips: Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 and Bes Technic. They run on RTOS and Android for smooth performance. A dual battery system is included for longer battery life.

This is Alibaba’s first big step into AI wearables. The glasses are made for professionals, travelers, and tech users who want smart tools for daily tasks. They’ll compete directly with Meta’s Ray-Ban and Oakley AR glasses, as well as Xiaomi, Rokid and Xreal. To back this product, Alibaba has announced a $53 billion investment to build a strong AI hardware-software ecosystem. After the announcement, Alibaba’s stock on the U.S. market went up by 1.5–2% during pre-market trading. Investors see this as a smart move into the growing world of AI-powered wearables. With the Quark AI Glasses, Alibaba is aiming to reshape how people use AI in daily life. By using its own Qwen model and tools, the company wants to make smart glasses more helpful and user-friendly.

But the success of this product will depend on how well people accept it, how it’s priced, and how it performs against competitors like Meta and Xiaomi.
