Dropbox to Delete Saved Passwords by October 28 Act Now

Dropbox password warning with countdown timer

Dropbox is closing down its password manager, Dropbox Passwords, which it launched back in 2020 after acquiring a company called Valt in 2019. This change is happening in stages and will fully take effect by October 28, 2025. That means your saved passwords will be deleted permanently unless you act now to save them.

The first step in this shutdown begins on August 28, 2025. After this date, Dropbox Passwords will become view-only. You’ll still be able to see your saved passwords in the app or browser extension, but you won’t be able to add any new ones. The autofill feature will also stop working.

Then, on September 11, 2025, the Dropbox Passwords mobile app will stop working completely. However, the browser extension will still work until the final stage.

On October 28, 2025, Dropbox will permanently delete all stored password data from its servers. After this date, there will be no way to recover anything, so it’s very important to export your saved passwords before then.

Dropbox recommends switching to a trusted password manager like 1Password, which makes it easy to import your saved passwords from other platforms. You can follow simple steps to export your data. In the mobile app, go to settings, tap Export, and confirm. Using the browser extension, click on your profile icon, navigate to the “Preferences” section, open the “Account” tab, and then select “Export.” Finally, confirm the action to complete the process.

The clock is ticking, so make sure to save your passwords before they’re gone for good.
