Disney Plus to Add Channel 4 Live TV in UK and Ireland in 2027

Disney Plus to Add Channel 4 Live TV in UK and Ireland in 2027

Disney+ and British broadcaster Channel 4 announced a new streaming partnership on October 27, 2026. Under the agreement, Channel 4’s main live HD television channel and hundreds of hours of on-demand programming are scheduled to become available through Disney+ in the United Kingdom and Ireland from early 2027.

The agreement covers two viewing options: a live HD broadcast of Channel 4 and a selection of programs available to watch on demand. Disney+ subscribers in the UK and Ireland will receive access to this content through their existing subscriptions at no additional cost.

The on-demand catalogue will include Channel 4 programs such as Big Mood, Tip Toe, and 24 Hours in A&E. Disney+’s announcement also identifies Maya, starring Bella Ramsey, Stepping Up, featuring Denise Welch, and Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins among the titles planned for same-day releases on both services. This means viewers will be able to stream selected new Channel 4 programs on Disney+ when they become available through Channel 4.

Viewers will be able to watch Channel 4’s main HD channel live within the Disney+ application. The service will also feature a dedicated Channel 4-branded section where users can discover the broadcaster’s available programs. According to the companies, this section will follow the same navigation and viewing experience as the rest of Disney+.

Disney+ already offers movies and television series from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. Adding Channel 4 programming will broaden its selection with more British dramas, documentaries, and entertainment shows. The agreement also reflects Disney+’s evolution in streaming as the service expands beyond its traditional franchises.

The partnership also highlights competition in the streaming market, as platforms seek to offer more local programming and live television alongside their existing libraries. Adam Smith, Chairman of Direct-to-Consumer at Disney Entertainment, said partnerships with local broadcasters play an important role in expanding Disney+’s programming and serving audiences in different markets. The Channel 4 agreement supports that strategy by bringing more British television to subscribers.

For Channel 4, the partnership creates another way to reach audiences who increasingly watch television through streaming applications. Chief Executive Priya Dogra said the agreement would help viewers discover Channel 4’s programming across more platforms. Making its shows available through Disney+ could introduce the broadcaster’s content to audiences who do not regularly use Channel 4’s own streaming service.

The agreement applies specifically to Disney+ subscribers in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The companies have not announced a worldwide rollout of Channel 4’s live television service or its on-demand programming. Subscribers in other countries should not assume that the same content will become available in their local Disney+ libraries.

Disney+ and Channel 4 have confirmed an early-2027 launch window but have not announced an exact start date. The complete list of available programs has also not been published. Both companies say additional details about launch timing and the content lineup will be confirmed later.

For Disney+ subscribers in the UK and Ireland, the partnership will bring Channel 4’s live HD broadcast and selected on-demand programs into one streaming application without an additional subscription charge. The full content lineup and exact launch date remain to be confirmed, with the service scheduled to arrive in early 2027.
