Donkey Kong Bananza Swings Into Action on Nintendo Switch 2

Donkey Kong Bananza Voxel Smash Scene on Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo has officially announced Donkey Kong Bananza, a brand-new 3D platformer arriving July 17, 2025, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. The game marks Donkey Kong’s long-awaited return to full 3D gameplay, with a bold visual overhaul and dynamic level interaction powered by the next-generation console.

In a recent “Ask the Developer” interview, the development team revealed that the game was originally being built for the original Switch. However, midway through development, they transitioned to Switch 2 to leverage its increased graphical power and real-time processing capabilities. This move allowed for the implementation of new mechanics and more immersive environments.

Destructible Worlds and Voxel-Based Gameplay:

One of the game’s standout features is its voxel destruction system, a gameplay innovation that lets Donkey Kong smash through the environment in real-time. Players can punch through walls, crush platforms, and carve their paths through levels. This mechanic is more than just flashy: it’s central to how players explore and solve puzzles.

The game also includes a variety of transformation powers, enabling Donkey Kong to change form and gain unique abilities, all designed to enhance movement, combat, and exploration.

A Fresh Look for a Classic Hero:

Donkey Kong has received a visual refresh that keeps his iconic look intact while introducing more detail and emotional expression. The art team gave him denser fur, stronger posture, and updated animations that bring him to life in new ways. This expressive design helps communicate mood, power, and personality throughout the adventure.
