Rumors of a Nintendo Direct airing later this July are building momentum, as Kit Ellis, former director of social media marketing at Nintendo of America, says it “makes a lot of sense”. He and industry insider Nate the Hate believe Nintendo will hold a showcase after the release of Donkey Kong Bananza on July 17 to announce key Switch 2 titles.

Ellis points to the continued lack of concrete release dates for several major games, including Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby Air Riders, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, as a driving reason for Nintendo to fill the information gap.

If Nintendo follows through, the Direct could deliver much-needed clarity:

  • Announcement of a firm release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
  • Release windows for Kirby Air Riders and Age of Imprisonment
  • Teasers for other Switch 2 projects, possibly including FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods
  • Updates on third-party support following the recent Tony Hawk’s port announcement

With the next Pokémon Presents slated for July 22, a Direct in the final week of July fits Nintendo’s strategy, avoiding earnings season and generating summer buzz ahead of fall releases.

Fans are also hopeful that the rumored Direct could drop more concrete details about the Nintendo Switch 2. With increasing speculation around its specs, backward compatibility, and launch lineup, many believe that July’s presentation could act as a teaser ahead of a larger hardware-focused event later in the year. Nintendo has remained tight-lipped about its next-gen console, but given the recent uptick in developer leaks and insider confirmations, anticipation for an official reveal is at an all-time high.
