Google has officially announced the Pixel 9a, the latest addition to its smartphone lineup, featuring the new Tensor G4 processor and a host of advanced features. Priced at $499, the Pixel 9a is set to be available in April.
The Pixel 9a showcases a design consistent with the Pixel 9 series, featuring flat edges and a flat aluminum frame. The device boasts a 6.3-inch pOLED display with a resolution of 2424×1080 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. Notably, the screen achieves up to 1800 nits brightness in HDR content and peaks at 2700 nits, ensuring clear visibility even under direct sunlight. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and integrates an optical fingerprint reader.
Under the hood, the Pixel 9a is powered by Google’s Tensor G4 processor, accompanied by 8GB of RAM. Users can choose between 128GB and 256GB storage options. The device runs on Android 15 and benefits from seven years of OS and security updates, ensuring longevity and security for users.
The smartphone is equipped with a 48MP main camera featuring an f/1.7 aperture, Quad PD Dual Pixel autofocus, and optical image stabilization, capable of recording 4K videos at up to 60fps. Additionally, it includes a 13MP ultra-wide lens and a 13MP front-facing camera. New photography features such as Macro Focus and Astrophotography mode are also introduced in this model.
The Pixel 9a houses a 5100mAh battery, promising over 30 hours of usage on a single charge. It supports 23W wired charging and Qi wireless charging, offering flexibility in charging options.
Enhancing its durability, the Pixel 9a comes with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. It is available in four color variants: Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris, and Peony, although availability may vary by region.
While the Pixel 9a was initially slated for a March release, Google has delayed the launch to April due to a “component quality issue” affecting a small number of devices. Pre-orders have been postponed, and the company is conducting additional quality checks to ensure product reliability.
With its combination of high-end features, robust design, and extended software support, the Pixel 9a positions itself as a compelling choice in the mid-range smartphone market.
