Google has officially launched its digital payment service, Google Wallet, in Pakistan, marking a significant advancement in the country’s digital payments landscape. This service enables users to make online, in-app, and contactless payments using their mobile devices, offering a safer and more efficient transaction experience.

To begin using Google Wallet, users can download the app from the Google Play Store. If a compatible credit or debit card is already linked to the user’s Google account, it will automatically appear in the app. Users can then follow on-screen instructions to set up their account for contactless payments. For those without a saved card, adding one is straightforward: tap “Add a card” in the app, review and accept the issuer’s terms and conditions, complete the verification process, and the card will be tokenized for use in Google Wallet.

Google Wallet currently supports a variety of debit and credit cards from leading Pakistani financial institutions, including:

  • Bank AlFalah (Visa and Mastercard)
  • Bank of Punjab (Mastercard)
  • Faysal Bank Noor (Mastercard)
  • HBL (Visa and Mastercard)
  • JazzCash (Mastercard)
  • Meezan Bank (Visa and Mastercard)
  • UBL (Visa and Mastercard)

Additionally, integrations with other banks are forthcoming, including:

  • Allied Bank (Visa)
  • Easypaisa Digital Bank (Visa)
  • JS Bank (Visa and Mastercard)
  • Zindigi (Visa and Mastercard)

Beyond facilitating payments, Google Wallet allows users to store digital items such as loyalty cards and boarding passes, providing an all-in-one solution for managing payments and travel documents. Upcoming integrations will enable users to shop with Google Pay at popular online retailers, including Onic, Gul Ahmed, Sana Safinaz, J., and KE, through PayFast’s platform. Travelers will also be able to add boarding passes from airlines like Batik Air and Thai Airways to Google Wallet, ensuring a smoother experience at airports with real-time notifications about departure times and gate changes.

Google Wallet’s integration with platforms like Safepay means that more businesses in Pakistan will soon accept secure contactless payments, expanding the reach of this digital payment solution. These innovations are set to transform how Pakistanis conduct transactions and manage financial activities.
