Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link, a GPS-based action role-playing game (ARPG) that was originally planned for mobile devices, has been officially cancelled by Square Enix. The choice represents a major change in the company’s Kingdom Hearts series development plans.
Originally announced in 2022, Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link was designed to blend real-world exploration with the series’ signature action RPG elements. The game aimed to allow players to collect Disney character “Pieces” and engage in battles against the Heartless, utilizing both GPS-based movement and a “Touch-Mode” for stationary play. The game experienced numerous delays, ultimately delaying its planned release into 2025, even though closed beta testing was carried out in late 2023 and early 2024.
A statement issued by Square Enix reiterated the company’s dedication to the Kingdom Hearts series and thanked fans for their support:
