Published Date: 13/05/2025

Samsung Electronics has officially launched the Galaxy S25 Edge, its slimmest flagship smartphone to date, marking a strategic move to outpace Apple’s anticipated iPhone 17 Air in the ultra-thin smartphone segment.

Measuring just 5.8mm in thickness and weighing 163 grams, the Galaxy S25 Edge sets a new standard for slimness in Samsung’s smartphone lineup. Despite its slender profile, the device boasts a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, offering vibrant visuals and smooth performance.

The Edge model is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM, ensuring robust performance for multitasking and demanding applications. Storage options include 256GB and 512GB variants, catering to users with varying storage needs.

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy S25 Edge with a dual-camera setup, featuring a 200MP primary sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide lens capable of macro photography. The device leverages AI-powered enhancements for photography, including real-time multimodal camera and voice interaction, as well as AI-driven image and audio editing tools.

To achieve its ultra-thin design, the Galaxy S25 Edge houses a 3,900mAh battery, which is smaller compared to other models in the S25 series. While this may raise concerns about battery longevity, Samsung emphasizes software optimizations to maintain efficient power usage.

The device features a durable titanium frame and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, enhancing its resilience despite the slim form factor. Color options include Ice Blue, Jet Black, and Silver, appealing to a broad range of aesthetic preferences.

Priced starting at $1,099, the Galaxy S25 Edge positions itself between the S25+ and S25 Ultra models. Samsung aims to attract consumers seeking a balance between high performance and sleek design.

The device will be available in South Korea on May 23, followed by a U.S. release on May 30. Samsung plans to expand availability to approximately 30 countries, including key markets in China and Europe.

By launching the Galaxy S25 Edge ahead of Apple’s rumored iPhone 17 Air, Samsung aims to capture the attention of consumers interested in ultra-thin smartphones. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to debut later this year, with a thickness of approximately 5.5mm, slightly undercutting the S25 Edge.
