Sony PlayStation is shutting down Bluepoint Games, a PlayStation subsidiary known for producing major remakes, including Demon’s Souls. A PlayStation spokesperson said the decision followed a recent business review and that the studio will officially close next month.
The spokesperson said roughly 70 employees will lose their jobs as part of the closure. The statement also called the team incredibly talented and thanked staff for their passion, creativity and craftsmanship.
Bluepoint was founded in 2006 and was acquired by Sony PlayStation in 2021. The most recently reported work linked to the studio was a live-service game set in the God of War universe, which was reported as canceled before it was publicly revealed.
The move is also framed alongside other Sony PlayStation studio shutdowns tied to canceled live-service projects. Since 2019, Sony Interactive has purchased 11 studios and three of those have been shut down completely or will be in the near future, including Bluepoint. Neon Koi was shut down in 2024 after its live-service mobile title was canceled. Firewalk Studios, whose only game was Concord, was acquired in 2023 and later shut down after Concord was pulled from storefronts two weeks after release.
