Zoom Video Communications faced a significant service disruption earlier today, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access meetings, webinars, or even the company’s main website. The outage, which began around 10:30 a.m. ET, was confirmed by Zoom’s official status page, indicating issues with meeting and webinar functionalities.

Downdetector, a platform that monitors online service outages, reported over 34,000 user complaints at the peak of the disruption. The majority of these reports originated from major U.S. cities, including Boston, New York City, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco.

Zoom acknowledged the issue on its status page, stating, “We have received reports of users being unable to visit the Zoom website (zoom.us) and unable to start and join Zoom Meetings and Webinars.” The company added that its internal team was “continuing to work on a fix for this issue.”

Approximately an hour after the initial reports, Zoom provided an update indicating that the identified connection issue had caused users to be “unable to authenticate to the Zoom website.” The company mentioned that it was in the process of deploying a fix across its cloud infrastructure and that service had been restored for some users.

The outage prompted a flurry of reactions on social media platforms, with users expressing frustration over disrupted meetings and classes. One Twitter user remarked, “Nothing like a Zoom shutdown to start the day. Prayers go out to the schools that start class today.”

While the exact cause of the outage remains unclear, Zoom has previously attributed similar disruptions to localized internet service issues. In past incidents, the company has worked swiftly to identify and resolve such problems, often restoring services within a few hours.

Zoom has become an integral tool for remote work, education, and social interaction, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, any service disruption has a widespread impact, underscoring the importance of reliable communication platforms in today’s digital age.

As of now, Zoom reports that all systems are operational. Users experiencing ongoing issues are advised to restart their sessions and monitor Zoom’s official status page for further updates.
