nT-Tao Fusion Startup Raises $22M Series A

Scientists monitoring a glowing nuclear fusion energy core inside a futuristic high-tech research laboratory

nT-Tao, an Israeli nT-Tao fusion startup, has been building toward a compact, distributed fusion power system designed to deliver 10-20 MW of steady clean electricity in modular, on site installations. The company positions its roadmap around a small, high-density, pulse-operated reactor concept tied to a quasi-symmetric stellarator approach and a dynamically stabilized torus architecture.

In a February 1, 2023 report, Calcalistech said the nT-Tao fusion startup raised $22 million in a Series A led by Delek US and NextGear Ventures, with participation including Honda, OurCrowd and the Grantham Foundation, bringing total funding to $28 million. The report also cited a commercialization target “this decade” and described a proprietary ultra fast plasma heating method claimed to enable far higher plasma density than typical designs.

The advance of Israeli deep-tech startups like nT-Tao comes amid growing geopolitical scrutiny of strategic technologies. Policy actions affecting U.S. and Israeli tech providers show how national security considerations are increasingly shaping innovation ecosystems. This dynamic is reflected in moves such as China’s restrictions on certain foreign software vendors.

Recent technical milestone (January 15, 2026):

  • The nT-Tao fusion startup said its C3 prototype reached operational status and produced first plasma pulses in just over two months from assembly start
  • C3 builds on C2-A results that reached about one million degrees (~100 eV) at the intended high-density regime
  • C3 adds refinements to magnets, pulsed power, diagnostics and system integration to pursue higher temperatures and longer confinement
