Qualcomm is preparing to expand its flagship mobile processor lineup with two new Snapdragon 8 Elite chips. The company has started teasing the upcoming processors ahead of their official reveal at Snapdragon Summit on September 22, 2026.
The teaser is notable because Qualcomm appears to be preparing two flagship-level Snapdragon 8 Elite processors instead of focusing on only one main chip. This could give smartphone makers more options when designing premium Android phones for the next generation.
Qualcomm has not officially confirmed the final names of the two processors yet. However, they are widely expected to arrive as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.
The companyโs teaser focuses on areas such as improved mobile connectivity, stronger graphics performance and more immersive gaming. Qualcomm is also expected to continue pushing artificial intelligence features, especially as AI becomes an increasingly important part of modern smartphones.
The two-chip strategy could allow phone manufacturers to choose between different levels of flagship performance. A standard Snapdragon 8 Elite model could be used in a wider range of premium smartphones, while a higher-end version could be reserved for Ultra, Pro or gaming-focused devices.
This approach could also become important as smartphone makers try to balance performance, battery efficiency and device costs. Instead of using the same flagship processor across every high-end phone, manufacturers may have more flexibility depending on the price and features of each model.
Qualcommโs Snapdragon 8-series processors already power many premium Android smartphones. The next generation will likely continue competing with flagship mobile chips from companies such as MediaTek and Apple, particularly in areas including CPU performance, graphics, AI processing, camera capabilities and power efficiency.
Gaming is expected to remain another major focus. Qualcomm specifically highlighted GPU performance and immersive gaming in its teaser, suggesting that graphics improvements will be an important part of the upcoming Snapdragon generation.
More details about CPU speeds, GPU improvements, AI processing, manufacturing technology and supported memory are expected when Qualcomm officially introduces the processors. Until then, many technical specifications being discussed remain unconfirmed.
The September announcement will also give consumers an early look at the technology likely to power several major Android flagship phones launching in late 2026 and 2027.
With two Snapdragon 8 Elite chips apparently arriving in the same generation, Qualcomm could be changing how it positions its highest-end mobile processors. The full picture should become clearer when Snapdragon Summit begins on September 22.
