Nintendo has officially revealed a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2, bringing one of the company’s most famous games to a new generation of players.
The updated game will launch on November 5, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo showed new gameplay during its celebration of The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary, giving fans a closer look at how the classic Nintendo 64 adventure has been rebuilt for modern hardware.
The original Ocarina of Time was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998 and became one of the most important games in The Legend of Zelda series. The story follows Link as he travels across Hyrule, explores dangerous dungeons, solves puzzles and tries to stop Ganondorf from taking control of the powerful Triforce.
For the Switch 2 remake, Nintendo says the game has been rebuilt from the ground up rather than simply receiving a graphical upgrade. The remake includes completely overhauled visuals designed to give characters, environments and locations a much more modern appearance.
Nintendo is also adding fully voiced cutscenes and expanded character dialogue. This is a major change from the original game, which relied heavily on text during conversations and story moments.
The soundtrack has also been upgraded with symphonic orchestral music, giving familiar areas and important scenes a more cinematic feel while keeping the musical identity of the original adventure.
Gameplay controls are being modernized as well. The remake includes improved movement, modern camera controls and new actions such as jumping and dashing. These changes are designed to make the game easier to control for players who are used to modern action-adventure titles.
Nintendo appears to be keeping the main story and identity of Ocarina of Time while updating areas that may feel outdated to newer players. This approach could allow longtime Zelda fans to revisit a familiar adventure while making the game easier for first-time players to enjoy.
The remake will also work with Zelda-related amiibo figures, offering additional in-game extras. Nintendo is also connecting the game with ZELDA NOTES in the Nintendo Switch App, which can provide additional features such as tracking accomplishments and helping players discover locations.
Ocarina of Time has remained popular for decades and has previously appeared on several Nintendo systems through ports and emulation. However, the Switch 2 edition represents a much larger modernization of the original game.
With upgraded graphics, voice acting, expanded dialogue, orchestral music and improved controls, Nintendo is giving one of its most important Zelda titles a major new release instead of simply bringing the Nintendo 64 version to another console.
