Apple Music transparency tags are set to change how AI involvement is disclosed when music is delivered to the platform, according to reported guidance sent to labels and distributors. The new metadata is designed to help partners flag whether AI-generated or AI-assisted methods were used in specific parts of a release during the upload process.
The framework is described as āTransparency Tagsā and splits disclosure into four creative elements, instead of labeling an entire release as AI or non-AI. Responsibility for applying the tags sits with labels and distributors at the point of delivery, and participation is described as opt-in.
| Transparency Tag | Applied to | Intended Disclosure Scope |
| Artwork | Album level | AI used to generate a material portion of static or motion artwork |
| Track | Track level | AI generates a material portion of a sound recording |
| Composition | Composition level | AI-generated lyrics or other compositional elements |
| Music Video | Video content | AI use in visual content delivered with albums or standalone |
Apple reportedly framed correct tagging as an early step toward giving the industry data and tools to shape AI-related policies. Reporting also said Apple has not publicly announced the plan and was contacted for additional details.
