AusNet Services, the largest diversified energy network operator in Victoria, continues to play a vital role in the state’s shift towards a cleaner, more sustainable, and resilient energy future. In recent months, the company has undertaken several significant initiatives aimed at enhancing grid reliability, embracing technological advancements, and fostering community engagement.

One of the most notable achievements is the successful implementation of a large-scale cloud ERP system transformation. In collaboration with Wipro, AusNet deployed SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, replacing legacy systems with an integrated modern cloud platform.

This transformation, completed ahead of schedule in just 18 months, marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey towards secure, scalable, and future-ready digital infrastructure.

In the realm of community energy resilience, AusNet has invested nearly $1 million through its Energy Resilience Community Fund. This initiative supports 28 councils and community groups across Victoria, enabling them to implement projects that bolster energy reliability during severe weather events.

For instance, the Millgrove Residents Action Group received funding to install solar PV, battery storage, and an inverter at community infrastructure, ensuring they can operate as emergency relief centres. Millgrove community building with AusNet-funded solar panels and battery storage.

Moreover, AusNet has introduced a 2-year Graduate Program designed to provide comprehensive training and development opportunities. This program allows graduates to work in core business units and explore different areas of the organisation through rotations, with the potential to transition into permanent roles aligned with their skills and career aspirations.

On the infrastructure front, AusNet has completed a significant upgrade at the Mortlake Terminal Station. This initiative, undertaken as part of the Victorian Government’s Renewable Development Plan, unlocks additional grid capacity and helps minimise renewable energy curtailment, enabling the integration of up to 1.5 gigawatts of extra clean power into the region. The upgrades are expected to be completed by August 2025, enhancing the network’s capabilities and improving reliability for the region.

AusNet proactively addresses severe weather challenges to keep its network secure, reliable, and resilient. Following the collapse of six transmission towers during a severe storm in Anakie in February 2024, an investigation by Energy Safe Victoria cleared AusNet of any wrongdoing. The towers were found to have been properly maintained and inspected, with the failures attributed to sudden overloads caused by wind gusts up to 175 km/h.

Looking ahead, AusNet remains committed to its mission of delivering reliable, sustainable, and affordable energy solutions to the communities it serves.

Through strategic investments in technology, infrastructure, and community initiatives, the company is well-positioned to support Victoria’s energy transition and contribute to a more resilient energy future.
