In a major step toward combining bitcoin mining with renewable energy, Sangha Renewables has started building a 19.9 megawatt (MW) Bitcoin mining facility in West Texas.
The facility is being developed on a 5.5-acre site that has housed a solar energy installation for several years. In order to avoid using the local power grid, the mining operations will use a “behind-the-meter” strategy, obtaining power directly from the nearby solar farm.This setup aims to optimize energy efficiency and reduce transmission losses.
Sangha has secured a $14 million equity raise to fund the development of this project. The company positions this initiative as a proof-of-concept for its innovative model, which pairs Bitcoin mining data centers directly with independent power producers. This approach not only provides a new revenue stream for renewable energy producers but also addresses the issue of excess or stranded energy by converting it into a valuable digital asset.
In collaboration with Plural Energy, an on-chain investing platform, Sangha offers accredited investors the opportunity to invest directly in the mining site. Investors can choose to receive distributions in US dollars or in mined Bitcoin, facilitated through blockchain smart contracts. This model democratizes access to Bitcoin mining profits while supporting the advancement of clean energy initiatives.
The West Texas facility is expected to begin operations in the third quarter of 2025.Sangha’s strategic focus on integrating renewable energy with cryptocurrency mining positions it as a pioneer in sustainable digital asset production.
