Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Adds Mods, Dual-Wielding Amid Switch 2 Bugs

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 Adds Mods, Dual-Wielding Amid Switch 2 Bugs

CD Projekt Red has released the free Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5, also known as the Edgerunners 2 Update, bringing dual-wielding, console mod support, new quests, and more character customization options. The official Update 2.5 patch notes also confirm graphics improvements and new content connected to the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 anime series. However, some Nintendo Switch 2 players are reporting crashes and other problems after installing the update.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 launched on October 22, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Mac versions available through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. The update is also now available on Nintendo Switch 2, allowing players on Nintendo’s handheld console to access the new gameplay features and content.

One of the biggest gameplay changes in Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 is the introduction of dual-wielding. Players can unlock the new Double Trouble perk in the Cool skill tree to use two Power-category pistols or revolvers at the same time. CD Projekt Red has also added four supporting perks, giving players more options for building a character focused on dual-wielding combat.

The update introduces a new side quest called Clampdown, which takes place before the events of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. To unlock the mission, players must complete The Heist and two gigs for Wakako before waiting for a message from her. The quest rewards players with access to a five-piece gear set inspired by the character King. A new radio station, HKGN 102.0 FM, also features music from the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 also introduces cross-platform mod support powered by mod.io. Players can browse and install a selection of community-created mods through the game’s built-in menu. The feature is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with more supported mods expected to become available over time.

The integration makes installing supported mods easier, especially for console players who previously had fewer customization options. However, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that achievements and trophies cannot be earned while playing from a modified save file on consoles. Players who want to continue earning achievements should keep this restriction in mind before using mods.

Character customization has also expanded with the addition of five Glamdoc shops across Night City. These locations let players change the appearance of hand cyberware, including Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire, and the Projectile Launch System. CD Projekt Red says the update introduces 40 cyberware styles, with additional options for changing colors and designs.

Another new side quest, Welcome to Paradise, takes players on a guided journey through Night City narrated by Richard Night. The mission becomes available after completing The Heist and reaching Street Cred level 15. Players can also discover 12 new Minor Arcana tarot cards, unlock additional clothing options, and explore improvements to the game’s customization features.

Update 2.5 also brings several graphics and performance improvements. Console players now have access to a field-of-view slider, while supported PC hardware benefits from NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, including new frame-generation capabilities. CD Projekt Red has also introduced ray-tracing optimizations, improved HDR rendering, and additional enhancements for PlayStation 5 Pro.

For players interested in how these graphics features affect gameplay, TechBonafide’s guide to frame generation vs native FPS explains the differences between smoother visuals, generated frames, and actual game responsiveness.

Despite the new features, some Nintendo Switch 2 players have reported problems after installing Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5. Complaints include game crashes, loading errors, reduced performance, and issues involving player profiles or saved progress. Nintendo Life also reported encountering bugs, including crashes, while testing the update. The problems do not appear to affect every player, and a specific fix for the newly reported issues has not been officially announced as of October 28, 2026.

Players experiencing crashes can check CD Projekt Red’s official Nintendo Switch 2 troubleshooting guide for possible solutions. The support instructions include checking for corrupted game data, clearing the console cache, and restarting the system. However, these are general troubleshooting steps and should not be treated as a confirmed fix for problems introduced by Update 2.5.

The update follows the October 20, 2026, Netflix premiere of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Netflix describes the new installment as a standalone, 10-episode story featuring a new group of mercenaries in Night City. Update 2.5 connects the anime to Cyberpunk 2077 through the Clampdown prequel mission, themed equipment, and additional music inspired by the series.

According to the official Update 2.5 FAQ, the update is free for players who already own the Cyberpunk 2077 base game. The Phantom Liberty expansion and Ultimate Edition are not required to access the new content. Players can also continue their existing progress without starting a new game, although those experiencing technical problems should check the developer’s support guidance.

With dual-wielding, console mods, new story missions, and graphics improvements, Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 gives returning players several new features to explore. However, the reported Nintendo Switch 2 crashes remain an important concern, and affected players will be watching for further updates or fixes from CD Projekt Red.
