Jaguar Type 01 Debuts as Brand’s Most Powerful Road Car Ever

Jaguar has officially unveiled the Type 01, a new all-electric four-door grand tourer that begins a major new chapter for the British luxury brand. The production model made its world premiere in New York on October 6, 2026, following the Type 00 design vision that previewed Jaguar’s new styling direction.

Type 01 is the first production Jaguar built on Jaguar Electric Architecture, or JEA, a dedicated electric-only platform developed to give the brand greater freedom over proportions, battery packaging, performance and interior space. Jaguar says the architecture was created specifically for its new generation of electric luxury cars.

Jaguar’s move also reflects wider competition around high-end electric vehicles, where manufacturers are combining premium interiors with increasingly advanced electrified powertrains.

Its design stays close to the dramatic direction previewed by the Type 00 concept, with a long bonnet, low roofline, wide stance and standard 23-inch wheels. At the rear, Jaguar uses a solid glassless tailgate rather than a conventional rear window, with a camera-fed ClearSight Rear View Display providing the driver’s rearward view.

Jaguar has published the full Type 01 technical specifications, including its battery, motor and charging figures. Performance is one of the Type 01’s biggest highlights. Its tri-motor all-wheel-drive system produces up to 1,030 PS and 1,365 Nm of torque. Jaguar says the car can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in about 3.2 seconds and from 62 to 112 mph in another 4.0 seconds.

The powertrain combines one 260 kW front motor with two 310 kW rear motors and uses Intelligent Torque Vectoring to manage power delivery. Jaguar has also applied technology and engineering knowledge developed through its Formula E racing program.

The electric GT uses an 850-volt architecture and a 118 kWh usable lithium-ion battery. Jaguar estimates a range of up to 400 miles under the EPA cycle and up to 450 miles, or about 720 km, under WLTP testing.

These remain manufacturer estimates ahead of final certification, and real-world range will depend on factors such as speed, temperature, wheel choice and driving conditions.

Fast charging is another major part of the Type 01 package. With a compatible 350 kW DC charger, Jaguar says the car can add up to 200 miles of range in as little as 13 minutes. A 10-to-80 percent charge is expected to take around 22 minutes, while split-pack technology allows the vehicle to accept up to 250 kW from suitable 400-volt chargers.

High-output charging is also becoming more common among large performance EVs, with other premium models supporting similar 350 kW fast charging capability.

Jaguar has also focused heavily on aerodynamic efficiency. Active Vanes at the front and a three-stage deployable rear spoiler automatically manage airflow while preserving the car’s clean exterior surfaces. After more than 7,000 wind-tunnel tests, Jaguar achieved a drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd, making Type 01 the most aerodynamic Jaguar produced so far.

Inside, a central spine runs through the cabin and visually divides the interior into four individual spaces. A single-glass 24-inch OLED display sits ahead of the driver, while a seven-inch smartphone-style touchscreen between the front occupants provides access to common functions such as climate and audio controls.

Rear passengers receive another seven-inch display, while a full-width Panoramic Soundbar and Sensory Audio seats form part of Jaguar’s immersive audio system. The Type 01 also uses a digital ClearSight rear-view display instead of relying on a conventional rear window.

Jaguar says more than 360 patent applications are connected with technologies developed for the Type 01. The vehicle also uses software-over-the-air updates, an NVIDIA-powered cockpit controller and an advanced driver-assistance system supported by cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors.

The Type 01 name also reflects Jaguar’s new direction. “Type” connects the model with well-known Jaguars from the past, “0” represents zero tailpipe emissions and “1” marks it as the first model of a new generation.

Type 01 is designed, engineered and built in the UK, with production scheduled to begin in 2027 at JLR’s Solihull operations. Electric drive units and battery packs will be produced in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will come from Halewood.

Orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries planned for the second half of the year. Prices will start at £130,000 in the UK, while Jaguar lists a starting U.S. MSRP of $130,500.

With more than 1,000 PS, long-range battery targets, rapid charging and an entirely new electric architecture, Type 01 is the clearest expression yet of Jaguar’s repositioning as a high-end electric luxury brand. Its performance in the market after deliveries begin in 2027 will provide an important test of whether Jaguar’s radical design and technology strategy can attract buyers in the competitive premium EV segment.
